Practical Seamanship / Boat Systems
12 V DC basics
Generic recreational DC systems commonly contain:
battery bank
battery switch or isolation system
charging source
distribution panel
overcurrent protection
positive conductors
negative return conductors
loads
Safety concepts:
isolate power before service where appropriate
protect circuits against overcurrent
keep terminals clean and tight
use marine-suitable components
address corrosion
do not substitute automotive wiring practices blindly
follow the vessel wiring diagram
Outrun diagrams should show conceptual architecture, not claim all vessels are wired identically.
