FIRE

Alert everyone aboard.

Put on life jackets if not already worn and circumstances permit.

Make a MAYDAY call early if the fire threatens the vessel or people aboard.

Stop fuel, machinery or electrical sources only where the controls are known and it is safe to do so.

Use the correct extinguisher if the fire is small enough to fight safely.

Keep an escape route behind you.

Do not open a sealed engine compartment merely to inspect a suspected fire if doing so would feed it with air or defeat a fixed suppression system.

Prepare to abandon if the fire cannot be controlled.

Stay upwind of smoke where the vessel and conditions allow.

Vessel-specific: fixed fire systems, shutdown circuits, fuel shutoffs and engine-room procedures vary substantially.
