FLOODING

Put on life jackets.

Identify the source if it can be done safely.

Start available bilge pumps.

Close the relevant seacock or isolation valve if the source is known and the system design permits.

Use emergency plugs, collision mats or temporary patches where appropriate.

Reduce causes that worsen flooding.

Monitor water level continuously.

Transmit MAYDAY early if water is entering faster than it can be controlled.

Prepare survival equipment and abandon-vessel arrangements.

A bilge pump is not a substitute for controlling the leak.
