PROPULSION LOSS

Maintain control of the vessel.

Assess immediate hazards, traffic, weather and drift.

Put on life jackets when conditions warrant.

Anchor if safe, effective and needed to prevent dangerous drift.

Signal or call for assistance as appropriate.

Troubleshoot only within the operator's competence and the manufacturer's procedure.

Escalate to PAN-PAN or MAYDAY if the developing circumstances justify it.

Important: Engine failure alone does not automatically create Navigation Rules status as NUC.
