Cleat hitch

Use

Securing a line to a horn cleat.

Sequence

Lead the loaded line to the far horn.

Take the line around the cleat.

Cross diagonally over the center.

Take the line around the opposite horn to create a figure-eight.

Cross again.

Finish with a locking turn when appropriate.

Dress the hitch flat.

Limitations

Exact base-wrap practice varies with cleat geometry, line, load and application.

A locking turn can jam under heavy loading and is not appropriate for every towing or rapidly releasable application.
