Sheet bend

Use

Joining two lines, particularly different diameters or stiffnesses.

Sequence

Form a bight in the larger or stiffer line.

Pass the working end of the second line through the bight.

Take it around both legs of the bight.

Tuck it beneath its own standing portion.

Dress so both working ends lie appropriately.

Set.

Limitation

For very unequal or slippery line, a double sheet bend can be preferable.
