Rolling hitch
Use
Attaching a line to another line or object where the load will pull mainly in one direction.
Useful for taking strain off another loaded line.
Sequence
Make a turn around the object toward the expected direction of pull.
Make a second turn beside the first, also on the load side.
Cross to the opposite side.
Make a final turn.
Tuck the working end beneath itself.
Dress and load in the intended direction.
Limitations
Holding ability deteriorates if:
loaded in the wrong direction
tied incorrectly
used on very slippery modern line
the loading changes direction repeatedly
